Request a Presentation or Event

Interested in a HOP doing a presentation for your school/organization/event or collaborating on an event? The Hungry Owl Project gives presentations on owls and their natural history, the dangers of rodenticides, non-toxic pest control (including using owls as a means of rodent control) and other topics related to our programs. Most of our presentations include visits with LIVE owls.

Types of HOP Presentations

Our presentations are both fun and interesting for people of all ages and we can cater them to fit each audience's particular interests.

Some topics and activities our presentations can include:

  • Our local owls and their natural history
  • Information about HOP and our programs
  • The dangers of rodenticides and how they affect owls and other wildlife
  • A very fun 10 minute video detailing the nesting cycle of a Barn Owl Family
  • Using owls as a means of rodent control
  • Owl pellet dissection (Typically for younger audiences)
  • A visit with a live Ambassador Owl (Additional birds sometimes available)
  • Q&A With HOP

General HOP Presentations
Our most common presentations contain a bit of everything: our local owls and their natural history, info on HOP, the dangers of rodenticides, using owls as a means of non-toxic rodent control, a 10 minute video on the nesting cycle of Barn Owls, an appearance by a live Ambassador Owl and a Q&A with HOP.

Non-Toxic Rodent Control Presentations
Many groups, such as those working with vineyards, farms, homeowners associations or anyone with rodent problems are most interested in non-toxic rodent control. For these groups we focus on using owls as a means of rodent control, additional Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques, a bit about HOP and our programs as well a visit with a live Ambassador Owl.

School & Youth Presentations
For younger audiences we usually focus more on our local owls and a little natural history, the 10 minute video, pellet dissection, Q&A and a visit with a live Ambassador Owl.

We try to be as flexible as possible with presentation requests, let us know what sounds good to you and we'll do our best to make it happen.

Who does HOP present to?

Schools, vineyard/ranch/farm groups, homeowners associations, community organizations, scout troops, youth groups, ranger programs, and most other interested parties. We are based out of Novato, in Marin County, CA and serve the greater San Francisco Bay Area up through Sonoma and Napa Valley. However, our Ambassador Owls have a maximum travel time of one hour, which sets a limit on our travel range. We typically ask for a minimum audience of 10-15, but can occasionally make exceptions.

Fee

We generally require a minimum fee of $150 for our more common presentations. Additional donations are appreciated. Fees and donations help us cover our non-releasable Ambassador Owl expenses, educational materials and other costs associated with our education program. It is possible for us to make exceptions for lower income organizations and we rarely turn people away.

Additional donations are appreciated. Fees and donations help us cover our non-releasable Ambassador Owl expenses, educational materials and other costs associated with our education program. It is possible for us to make exceptions for lower income organizations and we rarely turn people away. If our own Ambassador Owls are unavailable we can sometimes arrange for a visit from another bird handler with owls (however, these handlers usually require an additional fee). Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that live owls will be available.
